Mateusz Borowiak
Pianist Mateusz Borowiak was the 2009 winner of the Nigel W Brown Music Prize.
Mateusz Borowiak studied piano and composition at the Junior Guildhall, and music at Girton College, Cambridge. During his time at the Junior Guildhall he was a recipient of The Drapers’ Company, The Leverhulme Trust and the Musicians Benevolent Fund awards. In 2005 he won the Junior Guildhall’s annual Lutine competition and was awarded the AGSMD Piano Performing Diploma with High Honours. In 2006 he was awarded the Principal’s Prize.
Mateusz has appeared at numerous venues in the UK including Barbican Hall, Birmingham Hall, Cadogan Hall, Purcell Room, St. James’s Piccadilly, St. Martin-in-the-Fields, Snape Maltings, King’s College Chapel and West Road Concert Hall, at King’s Lynn, Lower Machen, Northern Aldborough and Stratford on Avon festivals, as well as throughout Austria, Czech Republic, Spain, Poland and Latvia. He has performed with such orchestras as the Royal Philharmonic, London Mozart Players, Cambridge University Musical Society Symphony Orchestra, European Union Chamber Orchestra, Silesian Chamber Orchestra, Cambridge University Chamber Orchestra and the London Octave.
Mateusz’s exceptional talent has attracted an array of awards including 1st prize for keyboard at the Royal Over-Seas League Music Competition (2006), 1st prize at the Christopher Duke Piano Recital Competition (2006), the Wax Chandlers (2002), the Eiluned Davies (2003), the Environ Composition Prizes (2006), the Girton College Music Scholarship for the student of outstanding talent in musical performance (2006 and 2008), the Alkan Prize (2007), the London Girton Association Award for outstanding musicianship (2007), the Rima Alamuddin Prize for composition (2008), Nigel W Brown Music Prize (2009) and the Sir Arthur Bliss Prize for Composition (2010). Mateusz graduated from Cambridge with double 1st class honours in 2009 and is currently studying piano with Andrzej Jasiński in Poland.
