Nicolette Wong
Pianist Nicolette Wong was the 2004 winner of the Nigel W Brown Music Prize.
Nicolette spent her childhood in Hong Kong and commenced her piano studies with Ramona Kan at the age of six. She later continued her studies at The Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts with Katherine Lu and, from 1996, at Wycombe Abbey School in England with Hugh Petter. In 2001, Nicolette was awarded a scholarship to study music at St. John’s College, University of Cambridge. Since September 2001, Nicolette has been studying piano with Sulamita Aronovsky. Upon graduation, she continued to study with Aronovsky at the Royal Academy of Music, where she obtained her Master of Music in 2007.
During her undergraduate studies, Nicolette won the University-wide Concerto Competition and the Nigel W Brown Music Prize, which led to her appearances as the soloist with the Cambridge University Symphony Orchestra and the Cambridge University Chamber Orchestra. Nicolette has worked with celebrated pianists such as Elisso Wirssaladze, Leslie Howard and Barry Douglas, and was invited to play at the ‘Liszt Day’ that was held jointly by the Liszt Society and the Royal Academy of Music. As an active chamber musician, Nicolette distinguished herself as a member of a piano trio and a piano quartet, and worked with the Endellion Quartet, the Fitzwilliam Quartet, and the Israel Piano Trio.
Nicolette has given numerous solo recitals around the United Kingdom, and has made solo appearances in Poland, Italy, Japan, Greece, Switzerland, and Germany. Other notable performances include concerto performances with the Surrey Mozart Players and the London Soloists Chamber Orchestra at St John’s Smith Square; conductors with whom she has collaborated include Howard Williams, Peter Stark and David Josefowicz. She performs regularly for the Beethoven Piano Society of Europe as well as the Frinton-on-Sea Summer Music Festival. Nicolette has recorded solo recitals for broadcast on Radio Television Hong Kong. Future engagements include a concerto performance at the Cadogan Hall in London.
