Instrument Trusts
Nigel Brown OBE has pioneered the use of Syndicated Trusts to fund the purchase of fine string instruments.
Over the last 25 years, Nigel has helped many professional string players, including Nigel Kennedy, Steven Isserlis, Lawrence Power, Stephen Bryant, Matthew Trusler and Natalie Clein, to acquire world-class instruments.
Fine string instruments, including Stradivari, Guarneri and Gofriller violins and cellos, as well as violas by Amati and Brenzi, are purchased by syndicates and given to professional musicians for their exclusive use. It is hoped that the acquisition of a fine instrument will stimulate the career of the musician and allow them to compete on the international stage, thereby increasing their earnings and allowing them to buy back the instrument over a period of ten to twenty years. Contributors to the Trusts gain from any price escalation, as the musician pays an increased price for ’shares’ in the instrument as the value of the instrument rises.
The Stradivari Trust acts as a channel for charitable donations to the Instrument Schemes. Contributors can make outright gifts to the musicians (enhanced by Gift Aid), increasing their share in the instrument. We are currently raising money to purchase instruments for violinists Jennifer Pike and Matthew Trusler, cellists Jamie Walton and Kate Gould and double bass player Graham Mitchell.
